Blood Draws & Specialty Kits
RefPoint provides professional blood collection for routine and specialty testing, including many patient-provided laboratory kits. Review the information below before scheduling to help ensure we can complete your collection successfully.
1
What We Can Collect
RefPoint provides blood collection services for a variety of routine and specialty laboratory testing needs.
Collections may include:
• Routine blood draws with a valid laboratory order
• Specialty laboratory testing
• Patient-provided test kits and drop ship test kits
• Provider-ordered testing
• Boston Heart Diagnostics collections
• Collections coordinated through My One Medical Source (MOMS) and participating laboratory and collection networks
Because collection, processing, and shipping requirements vary by laboratory, please contact RefPoint to ensure we can accommodate your test.
Already scheduled through a laboratory or collection network? Please follow the scheduling, kit, and preparation instructions provided with your collection. You do not need to arrange a separate RefPoint appointment unless instructed to do so.
2
Patient-Provided Test Kits
Already have a test kit? RefPoint can perform collections for many specialty laboratory kits.
Please bring the complete kit to your appointment, including:
• All collection tubes and supplies included with the kit
• Laboratory requisition or test order
• Shipping materials and packaging
• Any laboratory-specific collection instructions
Do not open or discard kit contents before your appointment unless instructed by the laboratory or by RefPoint.
If your kit requires unusual processing, special handling, timed collection, freezing, dry ice, or other requirements, please inform RefPoint before scheduling so we can confirm that the collection can be accommodated.
3
What to Bring
If you are scheduled directly with RefPoint, please arrive with everything required for your collection.
Please bring:
• A current photo ID
• Your laboratory order or requisition, when applicable
• Your complete test kit, if one was provided to you
• Any laboratory-specific collection instructions
• Insurance information only if specifically requested by the ordering laboratory
If your collection was arranged through MOMS or another laboratory or collection network, follow the instructions provided with your scheduled collection.
RefPoint is an independent collection service. Laboratory testing charges and RefPoint's blood collection fee are separate unless specifically stated otherwise.
If you're unsure what you need to bring, contact us before your appointment.
4
Before Your Blood Draw
Follow any preparation instructions provided by your ordering healthcare provider, laboratory, test-kit company, or collection network.
Some tests may require fasting, specific collection times, medication-related instructions, or other preparation. RefPoint does not change the preparation requirements established for your testing.
If fasting is required, follow the instructions provided with your laboratory order or test kit.
Please drink water as permitted by your testing instructions. Being appropriately hydrated can help make blood collection easier.
Do not stop or change prescribed medications unless instructed by the healthcare professional responsible for your care.
If you are uncertain about your test preparation requirements, contact your ordering provider or laboratory before your appointment.
5
Processing, Packaging & Shipping
Specialty testing may require specific handling after collection.
When required and within RefPoint's available services, specimens may be prepared according to the laboratory's supplied instructions, including appropriate processing, packaging, and preparation for shipment.
The laboratory, ordering service, or test-kit provider must provide any required collection, processing, packaging, and shipping instructions and materials.
Some specialized requirements may not be available at RefPoint.
Please contact us before scheduling if your collection requires:
• Unusual or extensive specimen processing
• Frozen specimens or dry ice
• Immediate or STAT transport
• Specialized equipment or handling not included with the kit
We will confirm whether your collection requirements can be accommodated before your appointment.
For collections arranged through MOMS or another collection network, the collection and specimen-handling requirements provided for that assignment will be followed.
6
Mobile Collection Available
Need your blood draw somewhere other than our Kennewick collection site?
Mobile blood collection is available by appointment for eligible collections at homes, workplaces, and other approved locations.
Mobile availability depends on location, test requirements, specimen stability, processing needs, and transportation requirements.
Specialty kits are not automatically eligible for mobile collection. We will review the laboratory's requirements before confirming a mobile appointment.
Collections assigned through MOMS or another collection network remain subject to that network's scheduling and service requirements.
Contact RefPoint to determine whether mobile collection is appropriate for your testing needs.
